"There's Within My Heart a Melody"

Luther Bridgers

UM Hymnal, No. 380

There's within my heart a melody

Jesus whispers sweet and low:

Fear not, 1 am with thee, peace be still, in all of life's ebb and flow.

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, sweetest name I know, fills my every longing, keeps me singing as I go.

Rev. Dr. Luther B. Bridgers - 1939-44

Dr. Luther B. Bridgers was assigned to Haygood in 1939. He had been a general evangelist in the Church for many years and a very successful one. There was some doubt as to whether he would be a success as a pastor on that account, but all such doubts soon vanished. He was an eloquent preacher. He was very much interested in having a new church building at Haygood and entered into that plan with enthusiasm. The inspiration and desire to give, on the part of the members, which he created in them was one of the greatest helps that finally ended in the building of the present church. He was also a good singer and had written several songs which are now used in the services of the church. His talented wife and his son, Luther, Jr., were good singers also and they assisted in the music of the Church. - Birdie V.
