Haygood Memorial Is…

A United Methodist Church nestled in the heart of the Morningside neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia striving to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. As a United Methodist congregation we emphasize the grace of God. We welcome all people from all walks of life. Our hope is to help you find your place where you can explore and live out God’s call for your life. We especially want to ensure children and youth feel welcome. As Jesus reminded his disciples, “Let the children come” (Matthew 19:14).

It all started When…

In 1926, Druid Hills Methodist Episcopal Church, South, decided to give birth to a new church, named for brother and sister, Bishop Atticus Greene Haygood and Laura Askew Haygood.

Atticus Haygood served as a bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, and president of Emory University. He was a fierce proponent of education for African Americans and believed in the power of education to renew the mind in Jesus Christ.

Laura Haygood was a foreign missionary to China and educator. She was a strong proponent of equal education for women. She also organized home mission societies that provided food and shelter to the disadvantaged in Atlanta. Her work with the poor included establishing an industrial school to train people in the skills needed to hold self-supporting jobs.

We are honored to be their namesake. Haygood continues to incorporate their witness of education, advocacy and mission work. We educate the next generation through our Weekday Children’s Ministries, recreation ministries and our weekly programming for children and youth. We do our best to speak out for what’s right, offering missionary service through our involvement in Habitat for Humanity and Intown Collaborative Ministries.

We believe God has a place for you at Haygood and we hope to help you find it!
