Earth Stewardship + Green Team
Our Green Team is a group of thoughtful and passionate individuals focused on the care of God's creation through our resources. Our Green Team ministers with groups and committees in the church, local efforts, and other congregations to help equip and educate people in intentional care-taking..
Haygood Recycles
Around the Church
You can find clear collection containers located throughout our facilities. Please deposit your plastic bottles and aluminum cans in them. Haygood staff and clergy recycle used paper. And, we recycle all our used bulletins after every Sunday worship service.
In the Parking Lot
A large bin for plastic and aluminum recycling is located in the upper parking lot. A hopper for cardboard recycling is next to it.
Georgia Interfaith Power and Light
Georgia Interfaith Power and Light (GIPL) is an inter-faith non-profit that engages communities of faith in stewardship of God's creation as a direct reflection of our faithfulness through worship, education, and the sustainable generation and efficient use of energy.
Because of our efforts, Haygood was awarded the 2009 "GIPPY" Light Award for our faithful stewardship of creation by initiating new and innovative programs to enlighten and engage our congregation in care of the Earth. Haygood is also the recipient of an energy improvement grant.
Energy Improvement Grant
Haygood has been awarded a $14,000 Energy Improvement Grant by GIPL. With the support of the Board of Trustees, the Haygood Green Team applied for the grant to fund energy efficiency improvements to our buildings and equipment. The savings on energy costs will enable Haygood to better support its ministries. Just as important, these projects allow us to be better stewards of God’s creation by reducing pollution and carbon emissions.
The GIPL grant is a 1:1 matching grant. We're well on our way to raising the necessary funds and you could push us over the top. The money we raise, along with the GIPL matching funds, will result in up to $28,000 worth of improvements to the church!
Help raise money through Power Credit
As part of our fundraising efforts to match the GIPL grant award, Haygood is now enrolling congregants in the Georgia Power Credit Program. The program is a joint partnership between Georgia Power and GIPL to reduce power consumption when demand peaks during the summer. Click here for more information and online enrollment.
GA Power Credit Program
Haygood is partnered with Georgia Power through a program called Power Credit, an effort designed to control the amount of power used by your home's air conditioner.
Here's how it works: you fill out the application form below, we'll get you registered, and GA Power will install a switch on your air conditioner free of charge. After installation, you'll receive a one-time $20 credit on your power bill and $2 credit each time the system is activated, Haygood receives $20, and Georgia Interfaith Power and Light receives $5. (Make sure you sign up through Haygood for the church and GIPL to receive credit.)
